We are proud to support the Women’s Heritage Walk, from Al Ain to Abu Dhabi, which honors the women of the United Arab Emirates who made this journey twice a year not so long ago. Forty-three women will retrace this historical trek. Expat women will accompany Emirati women walking in the footsteps of their ancestors who helped sculpt this country.
This experience is a celebration of the past and an invitation to shape a vibrant future. Culture is assimilated. The heritage of this region passed down through traditions, customs and habits, imbue today’s women with the same strength, resilience and tenacity found in their predecessors. An innovative multi-sensory approach was developed to better understand the rituals developed from the hardships of daily patterns of life in the desert. The Women’s Heritage Walk will afford a unique perspective of Emirati culture through sights, sounds, smells, tastes, feelings and unparalleled personal insights.

In the Year of Zayed, the 4th edition of the WOMEN’S HERITAGE WALK (WHW) took place from March 8-13th. This year’s 125 kilometer walk was successfully completely by 43 women of 18 nationalities. Emirati women were the most highly represented with 11 UAE nationals.
During the journey, participants awakened in their desert campsite every morning at 4:30 AM and began walking by 5:30 AM or even earlier. The ladies were divided into a buddy system, and each group was accompanied by eight 4x4s provided by Al Futtaim Motors and Lama Tours. These vehicles along with a 4x4 ambulance from the Abu Dhabi Police were constantly available for emergencies and to offer nourishment, water, and comfort breaks. The group ate lunch and rested under tents from 11:30 PM to 2:00 every day before resuming walking. They walked between 22 KM – 32 KMs each day.
The 2018 WHW finished this arduous trek on March 13th in an joyous evening celebration with the walkers, their families, VIP guests and organizers. His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan honored us by delivering the keynote speech.
